Using Other Pacific Northwest Academic Libraries

PSU Library is part of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of academic libraries in the Northwest. Any current PSU student, staff, faculty member, or faculty emeriti has the ability to borrow materials at and from any other Alliance member institution as a Summit Visiting Patron. You can also pick up Pacific Northwest Academic Libraries (Summit) materials from other Summit libraries. Patrons who want visiting privileges and/or the option of picking up materials at a different Alliance library must physically visit that library in person in order to be verified first. You will need to show your ID (PSU, federal, or state issued) and be able to log in to your PSU Library account.

As part of the registration process, the library will create a username and password for you to use their catalog. Then, you will be able to request materials through their catalog, to be delivered to their library. The materials will be on your account at that library.

Here’s some additional information about some area academic libraries and the services they can provide to Portland State users. Please verify this information on the institution’s website before visiting. If you have additional questions about these libraries, please contact them directly.

Four locations in the Portland area. You may use a computer for one hour a day.

Open to walk-in guests for study and Wi-Fi. Make sure to check summer hours on their website, which also has visitor parking information.

On summer hours. Many seats and study spaces are available. Wi-Fi available.

On the former Concordia campus in Northeast Portland, co-located with a Multnomah County Library branch. They have a book scanners and study spaces. You can use your PSU credentials to access Eduroam Wi-Fi.

Open to the public, and free parking during their current summer hours.

Oregon Tech Portland-Metro campus in Wilsonville

The entire campus is one office building in an office park. When the building is open, PSU students are welcome to use it, and there are plenty of tables and quiet spaces available, including the library up on the 4th floor.

Washington State University in Vancouver 

Washington State University Libraries is extending VSP access to Portland State University library patrons. If you create a VSP account at the Vancouver Library location, you will have access to the entire WSU physical catalog/collection and to WSU Libraries digital delivery services as well, including interlibrary loan service (physical and digital). Patrons will be added to the Pullman campus, so you can also use the home delivery pickup location. WSU Libraries will ship, from Pullman, any physical item to your indicated home address at no charge and provide you with a paid return label.
