Portland State University Library recognizes and celebrates the Black Lives Matter movement with this selection of ebooks on the Black Civil Rights movement in the United States. The struggle for Black freedom began in 1619, when the first ship with enslaved Africans arrived in colonial Virginia and continues in the current day, with the movement for reparations and protests following George Floyd’s murder. These books offer a sample of our Library’s collections on Black Civil Rights, featuring memoirs and other non-fiction on topics as diverse as the African American ethics during slavery; labor struggles; Black families; agriculture; police brutality; civil rights in Oregon; mass incarceration; Black LGBTQ women; and the current Black Lives Matter movement. We also invite you to explore PSU faculty and student work on Black Lives Matter topics in PDXScholar.
