As part of our preparation for the new federal regulations on digital accessibility, the Library will end our electronic course reserve services in December 2026.
Fall 2026 will be the last term we offer electronic reserves, and, starting Winter 2027, we will no longer scan or host any reserve PDFs or electronic reading folders. Course reserves for print books and ebooks will continue without any changes.
With the upcoming federal mandate, all digital course materials must meet the new accessibility standard. Unfortunately, the Library doesn’t have the staff capacity to remediate electronic reserve PDFs to that standard at the volume needed to maintain this service.
While we will accept electronic reserve requests for Fall 2026 courses, we strongly encourage faculty to start exploring alternate methods of sharing course materials now:
- Upload PDFs in Canvas following OAI guidelines
- Share persistent links to Library content in Canvas
- Put a physical copy of the book on print Course Reserve
- Request a print or ebook reserve purchase through your liaison librarian
We understand that this is a significant change for many faculty, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while we all learn to work within these new standards.
If you have reserve PDFs from past terms you’d like to reclaim, email reserves@pdx.edu to arrange an opportunity to download them. For any other questions about this service change, please contact Access Services Manager, Rose Bosely, at bosely@pdx.edu.
