The Zotero Interface

Zotero's interface is composed of three columns moving left to right from general to specific:

Zotero Interface: Right Column

(Note: This image is of Zotero after citations have been added. When you first install Zotero your library will be empty.)

In the right column you can display and edit details for individual citations. There are four tabs in this column:

  • Info - View or edit the citation information for the source.
  • Notes - Add notes to citations (and view or edit existing notes).
If you store your research notes attahced to your sources in Zotero, citation is easy when you are ready to write your paper!
  • Tags - Add tags to citations (as well as to notes and attachments) to help find and organize them. By default, Zotero will automatically add subject headings and keywords as tags when importing items from a library catalog or database.
  • Related - Add links to other articles in your library. (Links are two-way; if you go to the linked article there will be a corresponding link back to the first article.)
