Construction update

Date: 11/12/2009
Excavation behind the Branford P. Millar Library is well under way. The hole is now close to 30 feet deep, with slide-rail shoring holding back the sides as digging continues. As the 29 ton rails are driven further into the ground, vibration and occasional shaking can be felt throughout the Library. Other than significant noise in classroom 160, Library operations have not been disrupted. We apologize for the noise produced during this phase of the project. Fortis Construction has been keeping the Library well informed as work progresses. The excavation is part of the Campus Loop Project that will result in considerable energy and maintenance savings by consolidating heating and cooling functions on campus. For more on the project and how it helps make the Portland State campus more sustainable, see the article in today's Vanguard.
