The Millar Library music collection supports the research and learning needs of students and faculty in the Department of Music. Areas of study range from classical and jazz performance to pedagogy, music history, ethnomusicology, theory, conducting, composition, and music education. The Millar Library collection focuses primarily on monographic and serial print resources, sound recordings, scores, and electronic databases to support these disciplines.

Finding Music materials in the Library:

In the Library Catalog (Vikat), you can limit your search to just music scores, or books about music, or music recordings. On the Vikat homepage at http://vikat.pdx.edu/, click on the "Advanced Keyword" button. On the next viewscreen, click on the down arrow to the right of the box for "Material Type" and highlight a category such as "MUSIC SCORES," "TEXT," or "RECORDS/CDS," then enter your search term(s) in the box at the top of the screen and click on the "Go!" button.

You can also choose these limiters after you've done an initial search of the whole catalog by clicking on the "Modify Search" or "Limit/Sort Search" button that appears on the results page.

If you don't find the music score, or recording, or text that you are looking for in the Library, you may want to try the Summit catalog at http://summit.orbiscascade.org/, to broaden your search to over 30 Oregon and Washington academic libraries.

Finally, the WorldCat catalog on our library homepage, allows you to search the holdings of thousands of libraries across the U.S.A. as well as abroad.
