The Library and Freshman Inquiry
Freshman Inquiry is where PSU students are introduced to research. As they do their research related assignments they will learn how to determine what kinds of information they will need, how much information they will need, and how to find their information. They will learn to look at sources critically and to evaluate the infomation they find. The sessions that your students have in the library will lay the groundwork for such discoveries.
You, the peer mentors, play a vital role in this process. Please take a few minutes to look at the materials here and begin to get comfortable with the library. Library anxiety is one of the biggest drawbacks to doing good research. As a mentor, you need to feel comfortable using the library. If you have any questions please call your librarian and schedule some time to talk, s/he will make sure you have what you need to make this collaboration a success. Thank you for being a part of the success of Freshman Inquiry. Please let us know how the mentor sessions are going.

Each Freshman Inquiry team has a librarian to work with.
Librarians have the experience to assist your students by designing library sessions to meet the research goals of each Freshman Inquiry unit. They are available for teaching FRINQ classes about the various parts of the research process; they will work with you to design a session you can deliver in mentor sessions; or they can create a web course guide specifically for the students in your FRINQ.
Contact the librarian listed for your Freshman Inquiry theme. They will be happy to help you in any way they can.

How to Schedule Library Sessions
Contact your librarian to schedule a library class on databases, the catalog, Web site evaluation, or in-depth tours. Prior notification is important as classroom space is sometimes at a premium.
