Charges & fees for lost materials:

The borrower is financially responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged library materials and/or equipment. Regardless of whether replacement or payment has been made for an item, library materials remain the property of Portland State University. Materials cannot be purchased from the library. Any person who has falsely claimed materials lost simply to gain possession can be charged for illegally possessing state property.

All items six weeks overdue are considered lost and your PSU account will be billed.* The $75 lost book fine will be waived if the lost materials are returned to the library within one year of the billing date. It is your responsibility to complete a Petition for Waiver of Library Charges form for materials returned after one year. Charges for Summit and Interlibrary Loan materials will not be credited if the materials are returned after the library has paid the lending institution. Contact the Billing Clerk to find out if a credit on your account is still possible or if library materials on your account have been returned and your account has not been credited.

*High demand items not returned within 12 hours of due date/time may be billed for replacement.

Please note that the processing fee is non-refundable, and that the Business Office is responsible for Banner charges.

Damaged Library materials (especially by water): please return them immediately to Circulation so that appropriate measures can be taken to salvage them.  Charges will be determined according to the severity of the damage and the possibility of repair.  Items that appear to have been vandalized will be charged as per Lost Items.
