Charges & fees for lost materials:

The borrower is financially responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged Library materials and/or equipment. Regardless of whether replacement or payment has been made for an item, Library materials remain the property of Portland State University. Materials cannot be purchased from the Library. Any person who has falsely claimed materials lost simply to gain possession can be charged for illegally possessing state property.

All items six weeks overdue are considered lost and your PSU account will be billed. The charges for lost materials returned within one year of the billing date are automatically credited to your account. It is your responsibility to complete an Petition for Waiver of Library Charges form for materials returned after one year.

Lost materials remain on your library record for one year. Your account will be automatically credited if materials are returned.

Damaged Library materials (especially by water): please return them immediately to Circulation so that appropriate measures can be taken to salvage them.  Charges will be determined according to the severity of the damage and the possibility of repair.  Items that appear to have been vandalized will be charged as per Lost Items.
