Map Collection at the Perry-Castaeda Library (U. of Texas, Austin)
An extensive library of downloadable maps. Includes country and regional maps, samples of a variety of projections, information on government map sources, and more.

Digital Map Collection, Earth Sciences Library, U. C. Berkeley
Several hundred digital versions of maps held in U.C. Berkeley's Earth Science Library map collection. The majority are pre-20th Century maps.

Map & Geospatial Information Collection, Cornell

The Map Machine
Developed by the National Geographic. A site for calling up maps of your choice.

Map Stats from Census Bureau
This site provides acess to U.S. Census data in cartographic form. Maps are based on the TIGER file maps.

Microsoft's Terra Server
Microsoft's Terra Server provides USGS georectified digitized aerial photographs (known as digital orthophotoquads) and SPIN-2 high-resolution satellite images, products of a joint Russian/American venture to market declassified satellite photographs from sophisticated Russian mapping satellites.

Geodata.gov
"Geodata.gov is a web-based portal for one-stop access to maps, data and other geospatial services." Over 15 data categories, including geology, human health, elevation, agriculture, biology, culture, and transportation. Covers federal, state and local levels.

National Atlas of the United States
Updates the print version of the National Atlas, which was published in 1970. According to the site, "this edition promotes greater national geographic awareness. It delivers easy to use, map-like views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes." "Draw" your own maps by selecting a region and data of interest.

CIA World Factbook
The World Factbook is produced annually by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and contains useful, concise economic and political information about the countries of the world.

National Parks Maps
Find a National Park by state and obtain more detailed maps and park information.

USGS
Includes USGS library, maps, products and publications. As an unbiased, multi-disciplinary science organization that focuses on biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water, USGS is dedicated to the timely, relevant, and impartial study of the landscape, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us.

USGS Global Land Information System
The Global Land Information System (GLIS) is an interactive computer system developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for scientists seeking sources of information about the Earth's land surfaces. GLIS contains abstract, description ,and search information for each data set.

National Ocean Service MapFinder
"This interface allows users to locate a local or regional area of interest; find out what information and product offerings are available for that location; and immediately download specific products."

Manual of Federal Geographic Data Products
Currently unavailable -- Describes Federal geographic data products that are national in scope and commonly distributed to the public. Geographic data products include maps, digital data, aerial photography and multispectral imagery, earth science, and other geographically-referenced data sets.

Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications
Source of maps distributed to Federal Depository Libraries. In many cases, the only index to U.S. Government maps.

Library of Congress Maps Collection
This site has historical, military, geographic, and transportation maps plus many other kinds of maps.

STATE

Geodata.gov

Interactive Geologic Map of Oregon
The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) has completed the first two years of a planned six-year project to digitally compile geologic data for the entire state. A subset of the Oregon Geologic Data Compilation from the first two years is now available to view on the web. This effort brings together the best available geologic mapping from state and federal agency sources, student thesis work, and consultants, although viewers are cautioned that it is a work in progress.

Oregon Forest Atlas
Data on Oregon's forests in the following sets: historical, physical-climatic, ecological-biological and political-social.

LOCAL

PortlandMaps.com
A valuable service provided by the City of Portland, this site contains information formerly available only by going through a complex process. Search by address to find aerial photographs; zoning, water and hazard maps; elevation; crime statistics; school district information and assessments of properties.

Northwest GeoData Clearinghouse
Sponsored by the PSU Department of Geology, this site offers an interactive fault viewer for the state of Oregon and a plethora of other interesting links.

GAZETTEERS

Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)
Contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States. The Federally recognized name of each feature described in the data base is identified, and references are made to a feature's location by State, county, and geographic coordinates. The GNIS is our Nation's official repository of domestic geographic names information.

GEOnet Names Server (GNS)
The GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign geographic feature names. Information in this database has been used to prepare and publish the series of foreign country gazetteers approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (US BGN)
