University Studies Mission Statement
The purpose of the general education program at Portland State University is to facilitate the acquisition of the knowledge, abilities, and attitudes that will form a foundation for lifelong learning among its students. This foundation includes the capacity to engage in inquiry and critical thinking, to use various forms of communication for learning and expression, to gain an awareness of the broader human experience and its environment, and appreciate the responsibilities of persons to themselves, to each other, and to community.

PSU Library Instruction Team Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Instruction Team to integrate information literacy goals into the PSU curriculum and community and to foster collaboration among library and other faculty to further instructional and research goals.

Using Information Effectively The information literate student, individually or as a member of a group, uses information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose. |

Ethical Issues and Social Responsibility Students will expand their understanding of the impact and value of individuals and their choices on society, both intellectually and socially, through group projects and collaboration in learning communities. |
