 Course Reserves

Course Reserve is a system by which your professor can make an item (a book, video, article, etc.) on hold for you and the check out time period is limited to a few hours or a few days, thereby making it available for everyone in your class to use.

There are two kinds of Course Reserves: paper and electronic.

  • Sometimes your instructor will place a book or some other item physically on reserve behind the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor. You will need to tell the Circulation staff the name of the book or item, or the number associated with it (see below)

  • Sometimes your instructor will place an article or chapter of a book online for you to print out (see below)
    • Note: this is different than WebCT

    Finding Course Reserve Items

Step 1: In order to find out what your professor put on reserve (physically or electronically), and to find out the name or number associated with it, you need to check the E-Reserves website

You can either click on the link above, or go to the Library Homepage and click on "Find Course Reserves". You can search by:

    • Course Name
    • Course Number
    • Section Number
    • Department
    • Instructor's last name

Step 2: Browse through the list until you find your class, and then the items on reserve for that class.

    • If the item is available electronically, you can print it from your computer screen.
    • If the item is on hold behind the circulation desk, write down the title and the call number associated with it, then go to the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor and request it.

Note: These items are very often not a part of the Library's collection and therefore you will NOT find them in our Library Catalog.
