EndNote is a computer program that allows you to recall and cite bibliographic information easily when you are performing research. Portland State students, faculty, and staff can search for books, journals, and other materials through EndNote, and then store those searches directly into the EndNote library of their naming.
Using EndNote with Vikat
You can use EndNote to search directly in the Library's Catalog, Vikat and import citations. To do this, you will need to download the appropriate connection file and copy it to the "Connections" folder in your EndNote folder on your computer.

Using EndNote with Library Databases
You can also import data from Portland State's databases or, in some cases, search those databases directly from EndNote. You will need to import the appropriate filters and connection files to search the databases directly. In order to access these databases, the connection files should be placed in the "Connections" folder in your EndNote folder on your computer.

Currently, the following databases are the only ones available from the Portland State Library for direct searching through EndNote. (Note: You can only use this method if you are on campus or if you have dialed into a modem at Portland State.)

Importing
Records can be imported from almost all of the databases the Portland State Library provides. Import filters are available at the EndNote Filters Download page. You will need to know the name of the database and the information provider through which Portland State obtains the database. Find this information by connecting to the database through the Library's Databases web page and looking at the branding on the database's Web interface.
Citation Styles
EndNote provides hundreds of styles for formatting citations. These are available at the EndNote Styles Download page. You will need to copy these to the "Styles" folder in your EndNote folder.
