Electronic Books (e-books)
Home » Resources

The Library provides access to over 160,000 e-books through ebraryNetLibrarySafari Books Online, and many other sources available at the Library.  In addition to searching for titles directly in each e-book vendor's platform, many of our e-books can be found by searching in the Library Catalog (Vikat) and limiting your search to "e-books" in the drop-down menu.

If you can't find what you need, please contact a Reference librarian for assistance.

Additional information is shown below for the following e-book platforms:

ebrary Information

ebrary is a collection of ebooks in a wide range of subject areas. ebrary's features include a browse for ebooks by subject area; a search by keyword across the full text of the collection; and the ability to bookmark, highlight, and take notes with a free personal account.  To get started, see ebrary's User Guide (PDF)

ebrary requires the ebrary Reader software. This reader will soon be installed on all public computers in the library.  To use ebrary on your own computer, you must first install the ebrary Reader plug-in:

If you have problems installing the plug-in, please consult ebrary's detailed installation instructions.

NetLibrary Information

A NetLibrary e-book is exactly the same as the printed version of the book, except that the complete, full text of the book is available online, with additional features such as a built-in dictionary and the ability to search for words in the text. The Library provides access to over 3,000 selected electronic books from this publisher and lists these books in the Library Catalog-Vikat

To check out netLibrary books, you must first establish a personal account and assign yourself a password. Both the required username and password are of your own choosing. You can set up your account by selecting "Create an Account" link in the login box on the right side of the netLibrary page. In creating your account, you can include letters, numbers, spaces, and standard punctuation. Usernames are not case-sensitive, but each username in the netLibrary system must be unique.

You can search for e-books by title or by author. You can also search for words in e-books. Once you've found an e-book of interest you can view it using either the preview mode or by checking the book out. The preview mode is only available for computers which are on the campus network. However in preview mode you are not required to create a logon identifying yourself. If you check a book out you have to create a user name and password (once) and then use it any time you check out an e-book. Preview mode allows up to 15 minutes of access, enough time to browse the book or print a few pages. Check out lasts for 2 hours and no one else can use the e-book while it is checked out to you.

Safari Information

The Library provides access to over 600 e-books on the Safari platform. These books are on computer science and a wide range of business topics. With Safari e-books, you can read the books on your topic, or search the full text (including code fragments) of the entire set to find the exact reference that you're looking for. You either log directly into the Safari site and begin searching for relevant material, or browse the books in our collection by selecting the "Library" link on the top menubar. All of our Safari ebooks are also listed in our Library Catalog. To review the list of Safari e-books in our catalog, search the Library Catalog-Vikat, using 'Safari' as a keyword

Note:  Please do not use the logout button in the upper-right hand corner of the screen when you are done with your book(s), but simply close your browser. We currently are only allowed one user at a time, and if you simply log out, you will be considered an active user for another 30 minutes (preventing anyone else, even yourself, from coming back in to look at a book).

Databases and E-Books

The Library subscribes to several databases that offer e-books or content from e-books.  These databases can be found in the Databases & Articles section of our site, and include: Academic Search Complete, Business Source Premier, GLBT Life with Full Text, Health Source, Literature Online, MAS Ultra, MasterFILE Premier, Middle Search Plus, Ovid PsycBooks, Primary Search, Professional Development Collection, Psychology & Behavioral Collection, Science Direct eBooks collection, Source OECD.
